The 17th century Panchakki is a major attraction of the city Of Aurangabad. Actually the campus was the Takiya (residence of a saint) of Baba Shah Mussafir where hundreds of orphans, Faquirs, poor people and devotees of Baba got food and shelter. The manager of the boarding had devised the plan of Panchakki (Water Mill) utilising the hydro-energy to grind the grain. The mill receives water that travels through an underground channel from a source which is about 8 km away in the mountains. This marvelous water mill was designed to generate energy to turn a large grinding stone, serving as a flour mill. Its daily yield was about four mounds (150 kg). The 400 year old Panchakki is still in working condition (see video).
