HEAD OF THE BUDDHA – Probably Ming Dynasty (1368-16) : This head originally formed part of the gigantic image of the Buddha. It might have occupied the centre of a two or three storey high temple in China. Giant figures like this would have been expensive to produce and could only have been created in rich and important temples. For the worshipper they suggested the all-embracing sriritul power and the majesty of the Buddha. Housed in Victoria and Albert Museum, London, UK., the Head was photographed on 12th Oct., 2015 during my London visit.
